7 tips for Sticking to your New Year's Resolutions

How are your resolutions going?! I truly hope that you have entered 2023 with a bang and smashing your goals.

Here are 7 tips to help you stick to your New Year’s Resolution(s).

  1. Make specific and achievable goals. Instead of resolving to "exercise more," try resolving to "go to the gym three times a week." Don't try to change everything at once or set goals that are too difficult to reach.

  2. Create a plan and track your progress. Break your resolution down into smaller, manageable steps and track your progress along the way using a planner or app. This can help you stay motivated and on track.

  3. Find a supportive community or accountability partner. Sharing your resolution with a trusted friend and enlisting their support can help you stay motivated and accountable.

  4. Celebrate your victories and ‘little wins’. Take the time to celebrate your progress and accomplishments. This can help you stay motivated and on track. Just be sure to choose rewards that support your overall goal.

  5. Be kind to yourself. It's normal to have setbacks or to struggle at times. Don't let one setback derail your entire resolution. Just get back on track and keep going. Even if you don’t reach your goals, you would have made progress. Be proud of that.

  6. Setbacks happen. It's normal to have setbacks or face challenges when working towards a goal. Anticipate these and make a plan for how you'll handle them. E.g. Have back-up meals ready for if you feel you want a take-away (this works for me!)

  7. Remember your ‘why’. Take time to think about why you made your resolution in the first place. This can help you stay motivated when things get tough. E.g. you wanted to lose weight because you wanted to be happier. If your weight doesn’t change but you feel happier because you are more active then you’ve achieved your why.
